Multi-Discipline Practice

The Law Society of Upper Canada permits lawyers to form a Multi-Discipline Practice (MDP) with non-lawyers who are of good character and who practise a profession trade or occupation that supports or supplements their legal practice (e.g. trademark and patent agents). The lawyer partners are responsible for the actions of non-lawyer partners and must maintain professional liability insurance for all partners. A minimum qualification to be a non-lawyer partner of Valadares Law Group is to be a registered trademark or patent agent in good standing with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office.
