The Vrdolyak Law Group Recovers $4 Million for Victim of Medical Malpractice, Bowel Obstruction Procedure

The Vrdolyak Law Group recovered $4,000,000 for a woman injured during a bowel obstruction procedure. The woman, who previously underwent gastric bypass surgery, did not have her stomach decompressed before the procedure to relieve a bowel obstruction, causing her to aspirate. As a result, she required an extended period of medical care but had an excellent overall recovery.

The Defendants in the case maintained that decompressing the stomach with an NG tube in gastric bypass patients experiencing bowel obstruction was not the standard of care, and should not have been performed on it.

The Vrdolyak Law Group spent tens of thousands to hire medical experts and prove that the standard of care in this case required an exception, namely that an NG tube should have been used to remove the contents from the stomach before the procedure.

With the Vrdolyak Law Group experts prepared to testify at trial, the doctor’s and hospital’s insurance company, who made no initial settlement offer, was forced to settle at mediation one week before the scheduled trial. In the end, the Vrdolyak Law Group forced the hospital to pay $4,000,000 in compensation.
